Breaking: Six students kidnapped as gunmen attack Lagos State Model College, Igbonla, Epe, again

Six students of Lagos State Model College, Igbonla, Epe, were kidnapped on Thursday morning after a gang of militants stormed the school compound.

There are reports that the principals of the Junior Secondary School and Senior Secondary School were also abducted.

This comes several months after another group of daredevil militants laid siege on the school, abducting the principal and four students. They were however released after intervention by the state government and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad  (SARS).

According to sources the school authorities were forewarned of this latest strike after the militants wrote to inform them of their plan to attack.

The school management duly alerted the Lagos State Police Command of the imminent danger, which responded by ending its men to take strategic positions around the school.

However, it is understood that the Police were overwhelmed by the sheer number of militants, and the sophisticated weapons they wielded in this morning’s raid.

While no group has come forward to claim responsibility for the attack, the kidnappers are believed to be Niger Delta militants who have been known to upset the peace in the southwest in recent times.

A team from the Lagos state police command led by Fatai Owoseni, commissioner of police, has visited the school.

So far, neither the Lagos State Government nor the police has released a statement regarding the latest abduction.
