On the heels of its successful charity walk against cervical cancer in 2020, the LG Rhythms’ (Port Harcourt chapter)organizers of the annual Charity walk for has announced that this year’s edition will be held on March, 28, 2021.
The theme for this year’s walk is ‘Walk against high blood pressure.’ The Port Harcourt Ambassador, Mrs. Jimoh Mariam Iyabo and walk coordinator, Mr. Segun. T. Bello have assured the general public of a hitch free event.
This is made possible by the partnership and approval of the Nigeria Police, FRSC and RSMH.
According to a media release, this year’s Charity walk participants are LG Rhythm’s (Port Harcourt chapter) walk partners, Socials International; a social club from Bayelsa.
The LG Rhythms is a Non- governmental organization founded in 2011 powered by love for universal change and progress in the global community.
LG Rhythms is spread across five major cities in Nigeria, they include; Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Ibadan and Abeokuta. There are also the LGR Ghana Gold coast and LGR diaspora groups.
This year’s Charity walk against high blood pressure kicked off in Lagos on the 7th of March, 2021 then moved to the city of Ibadan on the 14th of March, 2021. The walk moved to Abeokuta on the 21st of March and will take place in Port Harcourt on the 28th of March, 2021.
It will move to Abuja on the 10th of April, 2021 and finally in Ghana on April,18, 2021.
The Charity walk coming up in Port Harcourt will take- off at the Zoo premises at Slaughter by 8am. The course will take participants through YKC roundabout, Culvert bend (Woji), Woji village, Railway crossing and end at Tap out Grill, Woji.
According to Mrs. Jimoh Mariam Iyabo, there will be free BP (Blood pressure) tests and sugar level tests at the destination point as part of LG Rhythms’ community outreach programme.
Mrs. Iyabo further explained that the annual Charity walk is in its 6th year. It started in 2015 when they walked against breast cancer. In 2016, the walk was against lung cancer while it was a walk against tuberculosis in 2017. LG Rhythms have also organized walks for inflammation of the liver and prostate cancer in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
This year marks the group’s 10th year anniversary thus making this year’s walk very special. The anniversary theme is ‘A decade of impacting lives…relief to the people.’ Their founding motto, ‘let love lead’ has been exemplified in the group’s charitable initiatives over the past 10 years.
As the organizers of the Charity walk gear up for this laudable event in Port Harcourt, Mr. Segun T. Bello enjoins the public to come out in numbers to participate and support the event.
