Prince Harry and Meghan quit social media

Date:

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will never return to social media after claiming to have dealt with an ‘almost unsurvivable’ amount of abuse, a source has claimed.

According to Dailymail.co.uk, Harry and Meghan stopped posting on their Sussex Royal Instagram and Twitter accounts last year while hinting that they could quit the sites.

Now, a source close to them has said they will not use social networks to promote their new Archewell Foundation and have no plans to return in a personal capacity.

The couple has frequently spoken out about the abuse they receive online, despite continuing to use online media to promote their ‘progressive’ new roles in the US – including most-recently via a podcast on Spotify.

The pair has also singed a £100million deal with Netflix to produce TV series, films and children’s shows for the streaming service.

Harry and Meghan originally became disillusioned with social media after receiving ‘hate’ online during their time as working royals, but have continued to garner attention through projects with Netflix and Spotify.

It comes a year after the couple announced they were stepping back from official duties and their latest decision to leave social media for good signals a further step away from their existence as royals.

In a final post to their Sussex Royal account in March, the couple wrote, “As we can all feel, the world at this moment seems extraordinarily fragile.

Yet we are confident that every human being has the potential and opportunity to make a difference—as seen now across the globe, in our families, our communities and those on the front line—together we can lift each other up to realise the fullness of that promise.”

Meghan, 39, has previously spoken about being ‘the most trolled person in the world’ on the Teenager Therapy podcast. She said experiencing abuse while pregnant left her feeling ‘isolated’.

“I’m told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the entire world, male or female. Now, eight months of that I wasn’t even visible — I was on maternity leave or with a baby. If people are saying things about you that aren’t true, what that does to your mental and emotional health is so damaging. That’s so big, you can’t even think of what that feels like” she said
