Lagos Studies Association Announces Jahman Oladejo Anikulapo as the Winner of the 2024 LSA Distinguished Personality Award.

Anikulapo studied Theatre Arts in University of Ibadan, an Art and Culture Journalist and activist since 1987, member of West African Documentary Film Forum and Executive Director, iREP Film Festival.
Jahman started as a journalist reporting events, participating in/assisting to manage cultural programmes around the world, helping to shape national and international policies through seminars, conferences; and organizing art festivals, projects.  He was a Stage Actor, Manager, Director, producer on national and international productions e.g Agip Theatre Festival Italy 1987; Chieri International Theatre Festival, Italy 1992; Afrika Projekt 1996-2002 (Germany and Nigeria); Cervantino Festival in Mexico (2004); Gwanju Biennale South Korea (2005); Milan Film Festival (2005); Pant-African Film Festival, South Africa (1996); Real Life Film Festival, Accra (2005- to date); Nigerian International Film Festival (1992; 2002); French Film Festival, Tubingen, Germany as an International Jury (2008) etc.  Jahman has been the Programme Chairman, Committee for Relevant Art, CORA — since 1991 and the  Programme Head, Culture Advocates Caucus, CAC, organisers of Word Slam. Jahman is currently diversifying into Film and Media Arts programming as member of West African Documentary Film Forum and Executive Director, iREP Film Festival.

The Lagos Studies Association (LSA) is dedicated to advancing the study of Lagos and Nigerian culture, history, and society. Through various programs, conferences, and awards, the LSA promotes scholarly research and community engagement to enhance the understanding of Lagos and its global significance.

The Directorate and Advisory Board of the iREPRESENT Documentary Film Forum is thrilled to announce that Jahman Oladejo Anikulapo has been named the winner of the 2024 LSA Distinguished Personality Award. This prestigious award honors individuals who have made significant contributions to Lagos and Nigerian studies. Mr. Anikulapo joins a distinguished group of past recipients, including the late Adekunle Alli, Nike Okundaye, Olasupo Shasore, Aduke Gomez, and Femi Odugbemi. His dedication and impactful work in the field have earned him this recognition.
The award will be presented at the LSA Awards Ceremony, scheduled for Friday, June 28, 2024, at 6:00 PM. The event will be held at the Multipurpose Hall A, University of Lagos.
“We are honored to recognize Jahman Oladejo Anikulapo for his remarkable contributions,” said Saheed Aderinto, President of the Lagos Studies Association. “His work has significantly enriched our understanding of Lagos and Nigerian culture and history.”
