The newly installed president of the Rotary Club of Lekki, Rotarian Mike Jaga, has highlighted a few areas of focus and priorities for this service year while promising greater impact and increased participation for the Rotary year.
Speaking during his investiture as the 17th president of Rotary Club of Lekki Phase 1, District 9110, which was held recently in Lagos, Jaga applauded the outgoing President, Yetunde Dimowo for good work in leading the club and standing up to the huge responsibility entrusted upon it to serve humanity.

Jaga expressed determination to increase the Rotary Club’s impact and expand its reach through participation in various projects. “My primary focus and star project as president would be to take destitutes off the streets. Together with my team, we will seek to empower the indigent people,” he said.
The president also stressed the club’s twofold message which hinges on initiatives to tackle the spate of mental health issues and give aid to the needy.
“Mental health is a topical issue now, and the Rotary International President, Rotarian Gordon Mcinally is passionate about it because he lost one of his siblings to depression.
“Mental health issues are triggered by stressful situations: financial stress, social disorder, family disorganization, medical conditions, etc. Some antidotes to mental condition are for one to be aware of it, being truthful to himself, accepting what you do not have control over and more importantly, being positive.
“Aside from tackling mental health challenges, my other star project for the year will be to take people out of poverty through skills acquisition and create hope that the world cares about people with disabilities.”
The climax of the investiture ceremony was the fundraising session for humanitarian projects for the 2023/24 year. It was an avenue for the induction of the board of directors while awards were also given to deserving members of the club.
And for everyone who shared Rotarian Jaga’s vision about giving to the less privileged, and empowering the disabled ones in the society with skill acquisition, the fundraising session for humanitarian projects was not only a call to service but a moment to show solidarity and support to the leadership.
