65 Years of Excellence: Celebrating the Legacy of St. Pius Xth Grammar School

St Pius Xth grammar school Onicha Ugbo, rooted in faith, 65 years of brotherhood and brilliance, soaring in excellence, legacy in motion. is set to celebrate its 65th anniversary in grand style.

The series of commemorative activities are designed to honour the school’s glorious past, celebrate its remarkable present, and inspire its future.

Established in 1960, St. Pius Xth Grammar School, Onicha-Ugbo, in present Delta State, has made giant strides in education, producing professionals and responsible citizens who continue to contribute meaningfully to society. Distinguished old boys who readily come to mind, include but not limited to Tony Elumelu of Heirs Holding; Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, Nigeria’s former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources; Vice Admiral Dele Joseph Ezeoba, former Chief of Naval Staff; Major General Lawrence Fejokwu; Major General Raymond Ochei and Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, former Minority Leader, Federal House of Representatives, among others.

Over the past 65 years, the school has remained steadfast and committed to academic excellence, discipline, moral values and holistic development.

Therefore, this anniversary will spotlight the pioneering roles of past and present principals, teachers and old boys whose contributions, dedication, vision and sacrifices, remain unforgetable. As a matter of fact, they laid the foundation of the school’s growth and sustained relevance, and they will always be remembered for all these and more.

A key highlight of the celebration is the contribution of the Old Boys’ Association, which will unveil and commission several legacy projects in support of the school’s infrastructural and academic development. No doubt, these projects underscore the strong bond between the school and its alumni.

The two-day events will feature a variety of activities including a visit to the school on Friday, December 19 for projects assessment and also a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of Onicha Ugbo.

There will be thanks giving Mass in the morning of Saturday, December 20, in the school, as well as the unveiling of the statue of the pioneer principal who ran the school from 1960 to 1970.

Presentation of a book that captures the school’s essence from 1960 to date will also be performed coupled with Anniversary lecture and career talks.

Cultural and students’ talent showcase will be featured alongside Anniversary lunch and awards.

As St Pius Xth Grammar School, Onicha-Ugbo, marks this historic milestone, the staff, students and alumni will reaffirm their collective resolve to uphold the school’s proud legacy while embracing innovation and excellence for the next generation.
